Swix Sport USA Recalls Ski Helmets Due to Head Injury Hazard

Posted on July 21, 2011

In a press release, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in conjunction with Swix Sport USA, announced the voluntary recall of Uvex Funride Ski Helmets because they pose a potential head injury hazard.

The company is recalling approximately 800 units of the helmets because it has been determined that they provide insufficient shock absorption and resistance to penetration, which poses a significant head injury hazard to the wearer.

Uvex Funride ski helmets are available in two adult sizes, XS-M and L-XL. The personal size adjustment can be made via a small dial at the rear of the helmet. The helmets subject to this recall can be identified by the word “Uvex” printed toward the back of the helmet and the interior label, which bears the code “S-58B” or “S-58C.”

These helmets were sold at independent retail ski stores and ski rental stores nationwide from January 2009 through April 2011 for about $100.

The CPSC and Swix Sport USA recommend that consumers cease use of the helmets immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or store credit.

As a Los Angeles personal injury attorney, I hope that none of our readers, nor their family members, were affected by this recall.
