Cargill, Inc., the company that recalled 36 million pounds of ground turkey in August, has announced that they are recalling an additional 185,000 pounds of turkey due to a salmonella outbreak, according to news sources.
The August recall was linked to 111 people who were sickened by the turkey and at least one person who died as a result of consuming it.
The recalled meat was manufactured in Springdale, Arkansas August 23, 24, 30 and 31. The meat is marketed under the brands Honeysuckle White, HEB and Kroger and contains establishment number P-963 inside the USDA inspection mark.
No one has fallen ill yet as a result of the most recent outbreak. However, the turkey tested is believed to contain Salmonella Heidelberg, the same strain found in the original recall and a strain that is known to be resistant to antibiotics.
The facility has halted production while they eliminate the cause of the contamination. Consumers can return affected products to their store of purchase for a full refund.
