Two million mobile phones will get a replacement battery after reports that the battery can overheat, posing a burn risk to consumers, according to recent news sources.

The battery being replaced in a lithium ion battery pack made by Sony. Three phone models are recalled, all made by NEC Casio Mobile Communications.

The first report of overheating was made in January of 2010, but it occurred on a phone that had been damaged so no action was taken, according to the company. Since then, seven additional reports had been made, one resulting in a minor injury. The defective batteries have shown to emit smoke in some cases.

The batteries will be replaced free of charge.

This isn’t the first recall of Sony batteries due to overheating. In 2006, they recalled 9.6 million PC batteries.
