Ford New Software Allows Drivers to Listen to Texts

Posted on October 21, 2011

Ford has announced new changes to their Sync telematics system that will maker listening to text messages behind the wheel easier for drivers, according to recent news sources.

According to Ford, the enhancements allow more devices to be synced with the hand-free text read-back feature. Ford has claimed that the new feature “…gives users the ability to simply and smartly manage incoming text messages from their vehicle while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.”

However, safety concerns are being raised by the new features. Some professionals believe that listening to text messages will take up too much of the driver’s cognitive attention, causing them to be distracted from the road.

“In many situations, driving takes most of our attention; we’re not capable of doing much more,” says the associate director of the New England University Transportation Center.

As a Los Angeles car accident lawyer, car safety is one of my utmost priorities. In my experience as a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I’ve seen how distracted driving can cost lives. As a reader and perhaps someone who has been distracted by your phone in the car yourself, do you believe that this new feature will increase or decrease safety on the road?
