Nordica USA Pays Fine to CPSC Over Unsafe Skis

Posted on October 7, 2011

Nordica USA has agreed to pay a settlement to the Consumer Product Safety Commission of $214,000 after allegedly failing to report a safety defect with one of their products, according to news reports.

The defect over which the settlement is being made is a safety defect with the “XBi ALU Skis” binding plates, which the CPSC alleges that Nordica failed to report.

Nordica USA discovered they had 200 warranty claims about the binding plates breaking in the Fall of 2008, which could cause users to lose control and fall. A recall was issued in February of 2009 for 4,500 skis. The skis were sold through ski retailers for between $800 and $1,000 from August 2006 through December 2008.

Federal law requires that manufacturers report defects within 24 hours after being aware of a defect. Nordica denies CPSC’s claim that they knowingly failed to report a defect.

The Los Angeles personal injury attorney at our law firm believes that consumer safety is our number one priority. We know that even with all of the rules and regulations imposed on product manufacturers, things can still go wrong and sometimes companies even put profit before safety. If you or a loved one has been affected by an unsafe consumer product please do not hesitate to call a product defect lawyer right away. The longer you wait the more chance you have of losing evidence for your potential product liability case.
