Pool Pump Motors Pose Electrical Shock Hazard, Recalled

Posted on October 10, 2011

Nidec Motor Corporation has issued a voluntary recall of their pool pump motors due to an electrical shock hazard, according to recent news sources.

About 2,000 of the Ecotech EZ® Variable Speed pool pump motors are subject to recall. The product was sold at pool dealers, pump manufacturers, and pool motor distributors for about $1,000 from September 2010 to August 2011.

The problem is with the pump cover, which is not properly grounded, exposing consumers to an electrical shock hazard.

The product is labeled “EMERSON. CAT.NO.EVSS3” on the side of the pump and also has “MODEL M63PWBLE-121.H.P. 3.0, S.F.1.15” inscribed on the side.

No injuries have been reported, but pumps should not be used until Nidec arranges a repair, free of charge.
