Trek Recalls Bicycles with Faulty and Hazardous Part

Posted on October 27, 2011

Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced a voluntary by Trek Bicycle Corporation of some of their bikes due to a fall hazard, according to recent news sources.

The products affected by this recall are the Trek 2012 FX and District bicycles. About 27,000 were sold from May 2011 to September 2011 in bicycle specialty retailers for between $550 and $1,100. The following models are subject to recall: Model Year 2012: Trek 7.2 FX, 7.3 FX, 7.4 FX, AND 7.5 FX; District, and 9th District bicycle models: WSD, Livestrong and Disc models.

Four reports have been made to the manufacturer of injuries, including a broken tooth and injured lip. The problem is with the bolt that hold the seat to the seat post. This bolt can break, which increases the risk of a fall. Consumers can contact Trek for a replacement part, free of charge.
