‘Silver Alert’ System may Prevent Elder Abuse

Posted on November 4, 2011

According to a news source, a bill proposed by the Michigan Senator that creates a “Silver Alert” for senior citizens is part of the package that has recently passed today. The “Silver Alert” follows the system already put to good use with the Amber Alert but addressing the safeguarding of Michigan’s elder residents.

The bill allegedly increases the penalties for those who defraud funds from elders who are in a vulnerable state. Reports will also be required from nursing homes and elderly care facilities so suspected neglect or abused can be traced down and eradicated.

According to the Senior Services Inc., this bill will provide integrity and safety to older adults by protecting their rights and abilities to remain secure and safe. Recent reports show that the number of cases related to the abuse of seniors has allegedly become staggering. All of those who have supported the “Silver Alert” initiative hope that it becomes a law.

As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney I urge anyone who has ever witnessed elderly abuse or knows of any case to express their concerns with the authorities. No one should be abused regardless of the state of their health. Contact a personal injury lawyer right away if you or a loved one has ever been put under mistreatment of any source.
